      What is Animedoro?

Animedoro is a student twist on the Pomodoro Technique that became popular online: you study for 40–60 minutes, then use one anime episode, around 20 minutes, as your break. The episode gives you something to look forward to, and its fixed length stops the break from turning into an afternoon.

      1. Line up your episode first. Have the next episode ready so your break starts straight away.
      2. Study for 50 minutes. Keep the show closed and your phone away until the timer ends.
      3. Watch one episode. The 20-minute break covers a typical episode. When it ends, the timer switches back to focus.
      4. Earn a longer break. After three study sessions you get a 40-minute break, enough for two episodes.

How to keep it from becoming a binge

One episode per break. Set the rule before you start and stick to it. Turn off autoplay on your streaming service so the next episode doesn't start on its own.

Save cliffhanger shows for after exams. Slice-of-life and comedy series are much easier to pause than a thriller that ends every episode on a twist.

Let the timer restart you. In Settings, switch on “Start focus sessions automatically” so the next study session begins the moment your break ends.

Not into anime? The same idea works with any short show, or you can stick with the classic 25/5 Pomodoro timer.

      Frequently asked questions

      What is the Animedoro technique?

It's a variation of the Pomodoro Technique where you study for 40–60 minutes, then take a break of about 20 minutes to watch one anime episode. It became popular among students online as a way to make long study sessions more motivating.

      Does Animedoro actually work?

It works for many people because the episode is a reward you only get after studying, and its fixed length gives the break a natural end. The key is sticking to one episode per break.

Can I change the session lengths?

Yes. Open Settings to adjust the focus, short break and long break lengths and how many sessions come before a long break. Your lengths for this page are saved in your browser.

Does the timer keep running in a background tab?

Yes. The timer is based on the clock, so it stays accurate if you switch tabs. When a session ends it plays a chime and, on browsers that support it, shows a notification.
